Breeding Bettas is not a difficult thing to do but it does take some patients. Here is the way we do it here at S.H.D. We start by conditioning the pair for 2 weeks straight with as much live foods and frozen foods as they can eat 3 times a day. Then in a 10 gal. divided in half to make 2 5 gal. tanks we place the male in loose and the female in a guppy breeder tank. One side of the tank has a Styrofoam cup cut in half the other is dense with plants both live and fake. We leave her in the guppy tank till 9pm then turn her loose, by 10am the next morning they are usually spawning, however if they are not we leave them alone for 2 days, if they are not breeding in that time the female is removed and reconditioned. Say you get them to breed, the female needs to be removed as soon as you can without much disturbance to the male. Leave the male alone with his eggs for 3 to 4 days I start checking the them the beginning of the 3rd day. You should have babies by the 4th day though, I then let the male to his job, checking the fry every day till they start free swimming, at this point I take the male out and start feeding the fry green water. If you make in this far you have successfully spawned Bettas! |
